Setting The Tone

Most activities have two parts: business and non-business related

You will be presented with a series of resources. You have 4 weeks to use them to prepare yourself for Week Six.

This is the type of material you are going to be presented with:

01 – Reading [off-class]

At least four articles will be presented to you. You will have to read them at your own time, at your own pace. You have four weeks to read them all and take the appropriate notes for Week Six.

Once presented, the links to the articles will be placed in the comment box below.

There are two main categories:

  • Business
    • Two articles related to your current or recent skills and work activities
    • They are about your market sector
    • They are real articles. They are not for English learners, thus it may be a little challenging to read and understand everything [which is great!]
    • The mood in general is formal and technical
  • Non-business
    • Two articles
    • They may be motivational and/or informative
    • They are real articles. They are not for English learners, thus it may be a little challenging to read and understand everything [fun, yes!]
    • The mood in general is informal and informative

Write one article about life:

  • Two paragraphs [main 1, main 2]
  • No introduction required
  • Mood/Tone: informal, personal, opinion
  • Use one of the sources below as base

02 – Listening [off-class]

You are going to be presented with two podcast episodes.

One is related to your work, the other one is not. You have four weeks to listen to both of them and take the appropriate notes to prepare your content for Week Six.

Once presented, the links to the podcast episodes will be placed in the comment box below.

Listen to two audio segments

  1. Related to work and business that are closely related to the current work routines
  2. Related to life, well being, self-improvement, or even bizarre or unusual topics.

03 – Watching [off-class]

You are going to be presented with two videos.

One is related to your work, the other one is not. You have four weeks to watch both of them and take the appropriate notes to prepare your content for Week Six.

Once presented, the links to both videos will be placed in the comment box below.

04 – Writing Tips [off-class]

This extra content is meat to help you in your preparation for the crafting of the two essays you will have to write for Week Six

They are in general articles giving writing tips on how to write better.

Once presented, the links to the articles will be placed in the comment box below.

Your Mission

Week Six

You have to prepare two presentations and two pieces of text for Week Six.

Two Presentations

Presentation One is about the previous five weeks. You will have to write an essay about what you have learned, how that can be used in your life and work, and anything else that you may find relevant.

You are free to write this essay the way you want, whenever you want provided it is ready by Week Six. The shared writing tips may serve a guide though.;

Presentation Two is about creating a simulation of a typical work situation. Again, you are the present anything you want provided it is something that is as close to the real thing as possible. Here are some examples:

  • Meeting – A meeting with your team, presenting results, forecasting, strategic plans, or even issues and situations.
  • Training – A training session for new team members
  • Lecture – An internal lecture to educate other departments on what is happening at your department.

Deadline: by the end of Week Five

Two Pieces Of Text

Your mission here is to craft two pieces of text and deliver them by Week Six.

They must be as follows:

  • Text One is an essay about your opinions about the content used in this cycle, things that worked, things that didn’t work, things that should be there, things that shouldn’t be there, etc. You are free to choose the tone and the content.
  • Text Two is a memo that you are writing to your team. Here are the details:
    • About important changes that is happening in your department
    • Set the tone, deadlines, actions, etc

Deadline: by the end of Week Five
